Welcome to Year Four at Churchtown Primary School. In Year Four, we continue to build on our skills of independence and explore our learning through a broad and balanced curriculum. We aim to foster a love of learning through a range of practical and exciting activities which encourages the children to be reflective learners and responsible citizens.
Our exciting curriculum begins in the Autumn term where we explore the early civilization periods from the Stone Age to the Iron Age before moving on to learn about life in ancient Egypt. In the Spring Term we focus on rainforests of the world and the effects of deforestation. The start of the summer term begins with a step back in time when we investigate the history of Liverpool. We then end the year developing the skills of our budding scientists and inventors when we learn all about electricity.
We will also have further opportunities to take part in swimming, put on our dancing shoes for our performance based on the story of The Beatles and visit The Beatles Story Museum at the Albert Dock in Liverpool.
P.E.:
Year Four P.E. days are Tuesday and Thursday (Pine, Maple, Willow and Birch)
PE/field kit requirements are:

Home tasks
Homework
In Year Four we believe that our homework should be enjoyable and engaging. Therefore, we will set work that will consolidate recent learning in class and at times, be creative too. We hope that you can support your child in completing their weekly tasks and sharing their knowledge with you.
Weekly homework in Year 4 includes:
A literacy or numeracy task each week to consolidate learning (this will alternate each week)
Reading - please aim to read with your child at least 3 times a week. A sticker will be added to reading diaries each week to inform parents and carers of texts we read during our whole class reading lessons.
Spelling – We teach spelling using the Read, Write Inc Programme which is underpinned by phonics teaching children have had in the EYFS and KS1. A sticker will be added to reading diaries each week outlining the spelling rule and linked words so parents/carers are aware of what is being covered. Children will have the chance to learn, practise and apply this rule in class through a range of activities and quizzes.
We teach the children to take pride and responsibility for their own work and we strive to develop their independence, therefore we expect each homework task to be completed with care and to the best of their ability. Homework should take no longer than approximately 30 minutes per week to complete.
Feedback for homework will primarily be given either verbally or through self/peer marking during whole-class feedback where appropriate. Teaching staff will ensure any misconceptions are addressed during feedback given to support progress and understanding.
Thank you for your continued support.

Children access the TRRS website twice weekly in school to support the development of their multiplication knowledge. Log-in’s for TTRS can be found on the inside of children’s reading diaries.
